On a blistering hot day, a young person’s quiet gratitude reminded us why every simple need matters.
Recently, we were reminded how a need as simple as a bottle of water can hold deep meaning.
In the middle of a scorching triple-digit day, one of our team members sat with a young person at the Resource Center while they enjoyed their meal.
Our guest shared that they’ve now maintained stable housing for over three months and was working hard to stay away from negative influences.
They paused, looked down at their food, and took a sip of their drink.
Then they expressed how grateful they were for just a bottle of water.
That moment left a mark. As our team member reflected:
“I sat within those words for a while and remembered times where I was not as fortunate as I am today … how a simple meal and a bottle of water would have meant the world to me. In that moment, I was grateful for them. It reminded me to stay humble, just as humble as this young person sitting in front of me.“
“I hope this reminds each of you how amazing you are to take time out of your day and donate funds to assist us in providing nourishment to the young people served at Rod’s House. We could not do this without you.“
To each of you who helps provide meals, water, and a safe place for these young people: thank you. Your generosity ripples outward in ways you may not immediately see, but we see it every day.
You make this possible. Thank you for walking alongside us.
